Would You Work Here?

Skype’s Modern Palo Alto Office design

Welcome to Skype’s Palo Alto office. Pretty dope isn’t it? Is Skype’s office better than Google’s in the UK though?

Skype recently hired architecture and interior design firm Blitz to renovate their current 54,000 sq ft space in Palo Alto. Their primary goal was to create a world-class office that would differentiate themselves from their Bay Area competitors. Ultimately, they want to recruit the best talent in the field.

The new space reflects Skype’s spirit of innovation in a highly functional yet creative workplace designed to encourage interaction and spontaneity. Specific acoustic requirements were made in order to support the audio and video capabilities of their 250 employees. The project is seeking LEED Silver certification.

Google’s London Space Makes You Envious

This space puts all work spaces to absolute shame. All offices need to take heed to this.

Freshness says it best:

With free food, open office layout, and non-pretentious appointments, search engine giant Google has long been on the list of “Best Places To Work”. Now add another attractions to the long list – Brighton Beach, at least in its new London Headquarter location near Buckingham Palace. In designing the new 40,000 square-foot space, architect Scott Brownrigg went for something that will excite people when they arrive at work. Bright colors and lights accentuate the work environment while mini beach house replicas double as conference room and other amenities. In place of beach sand, Brownrigg cleverly applied birch colored carpeting that gives very similar appearance. On another side, the cafeteria takes on the look of a restaurant and serves a mix of Asian Fusion and Sushi. In addition, there is an onsite gym/shower, massage and spa treatment section, all as added incentives for Google staffers to come to work. Afterall, a happy employee is an efficient employee. We only wish more employers would do the same…

Android Goes Outer Space

The nerd in me found this to be extremely dope. A group of Google engineers launch an Android phone and figurine into space, and it reaches 100,000 feet. You can actually see the edge of outer space.
