Katy B Performs at Le Bain (Pics & Video)

Monday night I had the pleasure of attending Katy B’s show — as part of Steve Madden’s Summer Music Series which was held at Le Bain (Standard Hotel’s rooftop). Let me first start off by saying that Le Bain is a GREAT spot to chill at during their weekly parties. The view of the Hudson is incredible. One thing I found odd but dope as hell, the pool in the middle of bar. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture but I’ll dig one up.

Back to the artist. Katy B hails out of the UK, her album On A Mission topped UK charts, and is making its way to the states. Monday’s show was her first in the US and she didn’t disappoint. She had EVERYONE up bopping and whatever else people do nowadays. The open bar gave a few people some of that “dancing” courage that you so often see. Even if they did look like fools, but they were having fun like all the attendees. Once Katy B started to perform the place went nuts. She belted out crowd favorites On A Mission, Broken Record, and Lights On. Honestly, it felt short, energetic, and leaving me wanting more. All which are fine to me.

Enough talking. Picture time. And her performance of Broken Record below.

Video: How To Make It In America: Season 2 (Teaser)

Anybody that knows me knows how much I love this show. Its extremely relatable to 20 & 30 somethings living in New York or people just trying to make it in general.

Big shout out to Theophilus London for the song!

Christian Louboutin’s Marketing Team Is Better Than Yours

Peter Lippmann’s version of Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot’s Portrait of a Girl (1857-58) for Christian Louboutin.

The people at Christian Louboutin have hired photographer Peter Lippmann for a series of seven portraits. Each portrait was recreated from a classic and feature Louboutin shoes, and one handbag. Whoever the creative director is over there is brilliant!

Peter Lippmann’s version of James Whistler’s Arrangement in Grey and Black (1871) for Christian Louboutin.

Video: Will J. Cole’s Career End Before It Even Started?

I love, love, love Hip Hop Report Lounge’s discourse about music. In this episode they discuss J. Cole’s music and how much he has fallen off. I can’t say I disagree. Half the time I see his music posted I listen to the first 30 seconds then turn it off. Don’t get me wrong, I support J. Cole and want him to do well, but it seems that his heart isn’t all the way it in. Plus, these last few songs all sound the same. Same thing with Drake’s last 2 songs.

I thought they were bringing light-skinned back??

Fool’s Gold Opening Reception TODAY

If you know of Fool’s Gold then I shouldn’t have to say much about this store opening/reception. For those that don’t know read this…

Over the past four years, Fool’s Gold has established itself as a new kind of independent record company, one just as comfortable introducing once-unknown artists like Duck Sauce, Kid Cudi and Kid Sister to the world, as throwing sold-out parties where Kanye West and Drake just happen to stop by and hang out, or splashing their irreverent, eye-popping visual attitude across everything from vinyl sleeves to rubber ducks. Through the catalog of work and the family of artists they’ve curated, Fool’s Gold has become a name you can trust for new and interesting work in every context.

Their latest endeavor to proudly sport the gold bar logo is 536 Metropolitan, a top-to-bottom transformation of Fool’s Gold’s storefront office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn into a French bistro-inspired retail experience, featuring a wooden bar where the taps have been replaced by fully-stocked record crates, custom wallpaper and art prints, and an ever-changing selection of exclusive new merchandise alongside rare finds from the FG archives. Equal parts vinyl mecca, gallery space and clothing boutique, 536 Metropolitan launches as an instant must-visit for music fans of all kinds.

Sorry, I didn’t have time or patience to write all this in my own words. Just head over to Williamsburg, it’ll be a great time with good music and people.

Cowboy Boots Are Back??

Everything was cool until I saw those cowboy boots. Somehow this dude managed to pull it off. This line has a refined flower-child look, which I feel is kinda dope. Check out the collection from Saint Augustine Academy – Spring 2012.

Video: A Conversation With Jonathan Mannion Pt. 1

Legendary photographer Jonathan Mannion chats it up with SHHO about how he got into photography, his past work, and latest. If you’re not familiar with him I can guarantee you’ve seen his work. He’s worked Jay-Z, Nas, DMX, Aaliyah, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and many more.

This past Monday he held an event at the Apple Store in SoHo and the turn out was great. I left feeling inspired to do just about anything, but then that went to shit because I went partying. Story of my life. *shrugs*

Video: Kanye West Makes Appearance At Big Sean’s Release Party

Last night Big Sean had his album release party/show at Irving Plaza in NYC. Everyone and their mama’s were at the show. Except me. Unfortunately, I had to pass. After hearing about the event via tweets and some people I know, it was probably a bad idea to not take that plus 1 I was offered. Anyway, Big Sean performs I Do It and Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay. Then of course Kanye had to make his great appearance. Which was great. GO BUY THE ALBUM! So far its the best hip-hop album I’ve heard this year. Yes! This year.

I count Kanye’s album toward last year.

Video: KiD CuDi x Childish Gambino at Terminal 5 NYC

One of the best shows I’ve seen this year. The lineup was ill and all the performances were crazy. The venue had an energy that permeated into the streets. Let’s not forget there was tons of free Bacardi cocktails, so that always helps. Below is the man Childish Gambino’s performance which was also AWESOME!

Here’s some of things that went down that night.

You can barely see my ass on the right.

Video: NYC Police Hate Cyclists

This had me on the floor. Honestly the bike lanes aren’t the safest place for bikers. I’m one of the assholes that walk in the bike lane, yet I’m getting a bike.
